This Libro d’Ore (Golden Book) was produced in France between the 15th and 16th centuries and was purchased between 1840 and 1844 by the Abbot Marincola for the private library of Pope Pious VII. It was later transferred to the Abbacy of the Holy Trinity in Cava dei Terreni, where it has been kept to this day. The codex, richly decorated with miniatures, was produced in the workshop of Jean Bourdichon, a follower of Jean Fouquet, the official artist to the sovereigns of France. This facsimile edition, made possible through the use of ultra-sophisticated technology and non-conventional half-tone screening, has been printed in 9 colours on special paper for codices, with hot-pressed gold impressions. This exclusive run of 500 numbered copies includes a commentary by Giovanna Lazzi, director of the Riccardiana Library in Florence.

Codex Vaticanus B |
|
Written in Greek, this codex contains a large part of the Bible. It is also called Codex B and is conserved in Rome at the Vatican Apostolic Library (catalogued as Ms. Vat. gr. 1209). It was written during the first half of the 4th century AD, perhaps around the year 325.
The parchment pages of the Vatican Codex (B) – which total 733 – measure 27 x 27 cm. The text is organised into three columns per page; each page holds an average of forty lines and each line in turn contains from sixteen to eighteen Greek letters.
Run: 450 copies of which 50 were donated to Pope John Paul II
